Principal's Message
Dear Elijah Smith Elementary School Family,
As we embark on the 2024-2025 school year, I am filled with excitement and gratitude to be the new principal. It is an honor to become a part of this vibrant community, and I look forward to partnering with all of you in fostering an environment where students can thrive emotionally, academically, and culturally.
At Elijah Smith Elementary School, we place great value on the teachings of the community’s Knowledge Keepers, and the skills and teachings valued by the community. This means integrating Southern Tutchone language and cultural practices into our everyday learning experiences. We believe that by celebrating and honoring the rich heritage of Yukon First Nations, we create a sense of belonging and pride among all our students. Each child will be encouraged to connect with their identity and culture, as we work together to build a supportive and inclusive school community.
My philosophy of education is straightforward: every student deserves an opportunity to shine and feel valued, regardless of their background. Education is not just about academics; it is about nurturing the whole child. I am committed to continuing a warm and welcoming atmosphere where students feel safe to express themselves, explore their interests, and develop a lifelong love of learning.
Throughout my career in the Yukon, I have focused on collaborative initiatives that engage parents, community members, and educators in the decision-making process. I believe effective communication and partnership are keys to success. I encourage all of you to take part in school activities, share your thoughts, and engage in meaningful conversations as we shape the future of Elijah Smith Elementary School together.
As we move forward, I am dedicated to ensuring that the school programs reflect the values and traditions of the community while aligning with educational standards. We will explore innovative practices to make learning relevant and exciting for all students. Together, let's aim high and ensure that every child at Elijah Smith Elementary School feels empowered and inspired to reach their fullest potential.
Thank you for entrusting me with this responsibility. I look forward to meeting each of you in the upcoming months as we work together for the benefit of our students and community.
